2011 Finals Summary

The JTST Finals 2011 was the culmination of a long season's hard work by 14 of the best boys and girls junior teams in the UK. The final was hosted by The Bowl, Bromborough and broadcast live by a dedicated 3-man team for the entire day. Below is a summary of the days action:

Game 1

Boys

The boys section got off to a competitive start; with an impressive 984 team game from Leeds A and four other teams reaching 800+, one of which was Sheffield who took the early lead with an 18-2 win over Crewe & Stoke. The high individual first game went to Jake Daggett of Leeds A with a 258.

Girls

Leeds girls put in a strong 699 to start the day, but Bromborough and Wigan took the joint lead with 14-4 wins over Bradford and Burnley. All three first games in the girls section were close, with the biggest margin at only 26 pins. Rachel Arthur of Wallasey scored the highest individual first game of 223 which took the overall high-game for the day.

Game 2

Boys

Sheffield extended their early lead with a 20-0 victory over Barnsley B, and Leeds A also took a healthy 19-1 win against Manchester. However it was Leeds B who rolled the highest second game pinfall of 928, with their anchor man John Pickard scoring 222.

Girls

Wigan overcame joint-leaders Bromborough to claim top-spot with a 14-4 win, and the highest team game of the day of 708. Burnely and Bradford bounced back from their first-game defeats to beat Leeds and Wallasey 16-2 and 14-4 respectively. Bromborough's Natasha English did however contribute a 209 as the highest individual second game.

Game 3

Boys

The highest scoring game of the day for the boys; Leeds A scoring a 907 and six other teams rolling 800+. There were two close games; the first between Manchester and Barnsley B of 812-862 and the second between Leeds B and Crewe & Stoke of 812-865. This game's high individual score went to Brandon Roberts of Crewe & Stoke with a 212.

Girls

Burnley girls' confidence grew further with a 680 to beat the current leaders Wigan 18-0, and both Bromborough and Bradford took convincing 16-2 wins over Wallasey and Leeds to keep the competition close. Jodie Pedley rolled a 211 to help Bradford to their 16 points.

Game 4

Boys

Two fantastic games from Crewe & Stoke and Leeds A of 907 and 953 increased the level of competition, but Leeds A's 16-4 win over Barnsley B increased their overall lead having taken 67 out of a possible 80 points at this point. Brandon Roberts rolled the high individual game of the day with a massive 278 to help Crewe & Stoke to a 900+ team game.

Girls

The penultimate game for the girls brought tension to the competition, with a very close game between Wallasey and Wigan of 546-524 eventually leading to a 16-2 win for Wallasey. This game reinforced the importance of the 'team' aspect of the JTST, with an extra 22 pins taking an extra 10 points for Wallasey. Leeds scored the high fourth team game of 687 to beat Bromborough 16-2, and Burnley's Becky Daly bowled a 202 to claim the high fourth individual game.

Game 5

Boys

Bromborough led the way with a 925 game beating Sheffield 18-2, but it was Leeds B who took the second 20-0 victory of the day to beat Barnsley B. Bromborough's 925 was aided by Jake Edward's 211 game.

Girls

The girls final game was crutial, with only 10 points separating 2nd to 6th places. Fatigue finally crept in bringing the high team game down to 652 for Leeds, but this didn't dampen the atmosphere with all teams realising the potential to improve their position. However it was Burnely's commanding lead that was sealed with a 16-2 win over Wallasey to crown them JTST Girls Champions for 2011.

Game 6

Boys

Leeds A rolled another 900+ game of 957 to beat Bromborough 18-2, with Crewe & Stoke taking the third 20-0 win over Barnsley B with an equally impressive 899. There was also a close game between Manchester and Leeds B of 722-700, resulting in a 16-4 win for Manchester, again showing the power of the 'team' aspect of the JTST. Jake Daggett of Leeds A took a second high individual game of the day with a 220.

Game 7

Boys

The top two of Leeds A and Crewe & Stoke were drawn against each other in the final game, with just 11 points separating them. All of the games were close, the closest of which was Sheffield versus Leeds B with 787-774. Again, fatigue crept in bringing the majority of team games down into the 700's. However Leeds A managed to overcome it to beat Crewe & Stoke 19-1 with a 922 to seal their victory. In a dramatic turn of events, Sheffield beat Crewe & Stoke into third place by only one point, with a 16-4 win over Leeds B. A strong 223 from Mark Dickinson helped Leeds A to their win.

The JTST Committee would like to thank all participants, officials, instructors and parents for attending the final, and providing such a fantastic atmosphere over the long day. We look forward to hosting a bigger, better and more competitive final next season and hope all teams from this season will be returning to challenge Burnley girls and Leeds A boys for their titles.
