Constitution and Playing Rules

The general playing rules of the British Tenpin Bowling Association (BTBA) including dress code and coaching rule 333 (licensed instructors and coaches) will apply with the following special rules applied by the Junior Team Scratch Tour (JTST):

  1. For the purposes of licensing and coaching formal play is to be considered the entire duration of each round and the entire duration of the final including lane changes. Unlicensed team managers may discuss changes to a team’s playing order during lane changes.
  2. The JTST will be registered as a league with the BTBA and the executive officers will be:
    • President and Treasurer: Fred Miller
    • Secretary: Ray Arthur
    • Website Manager: Ian Tabron
    • Sponsor: John Jackson
    • Plus nominated representatives
  3. The Treasurer will arrange an account with a nominated bank or building society and the Chairperson will ensure the balance of finances are in good order and be co-signatory on the cheque book and/or building society book.
  4. Any Youth Bowling Club (YBC) registered with the National Association of Youth Bowling Clubs (NAYBC) participating in the JTST will field either one male team consisting of 5 players, one female team consisting of 4 players or a combination of both. It may be possible for a YBC to field more than one male or female team, subject to consideration by the JTST committee.
  5. All players will be current registered members of the BTBA and NAYBC.
  6. Players may only play for the YBC that they are registered with through the NAYBC and cannot transfer to another JTST team during the same season, even if they transfer YBC registration. If YBC registration is changed during the season any affected players may continue to play with their original YBC for the remainder of that season.
  7. Those players with “duel” YBC registration (i.e. more than one YBC) may play for their preferred YBC but may not change to any other JTST team for the remainder of that season.
  8. Registration of any player may be undertaken on the day. In the event of an illegal player being registered the scores for that player will be forfeited, a blind score of 100 substituted and all individual and team scores amended accordingly.
  9. No registered player will be permitted to smoke, drink alcohol or use illegal drugs during the entire duration of the round being played or the entire duration of the final.
  10. All teams will wear shirts of the same colour and type bearing the name of their YBC on the back in a size that is legible. No jeans or leggings of any description will be allowed. Tailored shorts/skorts will be permitted for female players only.
  11. Each team will compete in a group of no more than four YBCs, subject to consideration by the JTST committee.
  12. All teams will play a “round-robin” at each centre within the group. The host centre is responsible for the booking of lanes and arranging details of the days play, collecting necessary monies, collating scores, and forwarding to the JTST secretary and treasurer the respective scores and fees obtained on the day in full within 7 days.
  13. The scores for each round shall be collated onto a computerised Spreadsheet developed specifically for the JTST which includes a full user-manual. The host team will play as “Team One” in the schedule within the Spreadsheet.
  14. The date for the first round of each season will be agreed by all YBCs in the group and the JTST committee. The date for each following round will be agreed by all YBCs in the group at the end-of-play of each current round.
  15. The date of the JTST final will be notified in advance of the final round being played. It is hoped to hold the finals on the first weekend in July of each season.
  16. Any appeal will be considered and resolved by the JTST committee subject to appeal to the BTBA.
  17. Each bowler will play against his or her opposite number in the team order. All teams will play their games simultaneously.
  18. Points will be awarded in the following manner:
    • 2 points per-person head-to-head for highest pinfall per-game, plus
    • 10 points per-team for highest pinfall per-game.
This forms a total of 20 points for the male teams and 18 points for the female teams, and a maximum total for the day of 60 points for the male teams and 54 points for the female teams.
  19. In the event of any ties on pinfall points will be halved. In the event of a tie on points within the group for the qualifying positions to attend the finals the team with the highest pinfall will attend the final. If a tie still remains there will be a 9th and 10th frame roll-off for the teams involved until a clear winner is found.
  20. A team unable to field a full squad of players will warrant a blind score for each player missing. The blind score will be 100, will be unable to win any head-to-head points, but will be counted towards the team pinfall. No two blind scores may be placed in the team line-ups against one another, with the team playing on the left-lane taking priority. Any player scoring less than their opposing blind score will not have their points awarded accordingly.
  21. All teams will submit their first game line-up to the host centre coordinator prior to the start. Team line-up changes can be made on the score sheets provided in the JTST Spreadsheet and handed to the score-keeper at the end of each game. Once a game is in-play substitutions cannot be made.
  22. If a player is unable to continue with the game currently in-play, they will be awarded ten pins per-frame for the remainder of the game. The affected score will be unable to win any individual points but will be counted towards the team pinfall.
  23. Tardy teams and/or players may join in up to the last player on the lanes rolling his first ball on the fifth frame of any game.
